There’s the classic Turon, Lumpiang Shanghai, Lumpiang Ubod, Lumpiang Sariwa, Dynamite, Lumpiang Gulay, everything! When you hear the word “Lumpia” on any occasion, you would just automatically know that the food will be extra special.

The name “Lumpia” obviously has Chinese origins behind it. These Chinese Spring Rolls are also popular in other Southeast Asian nations such as Vietnam and Indonesia. Regardless of what country it belongs to, the idea is still the same. It’s a mixture of ground meat and vegetables wrapped in spring roll wrappers, and then famously dipped in a sweet and sour sauce.

In the Philippines, there’s no standard version of Lumpia. You can put anything you want, some use ground pork, ground chicken, or even fish as the meat! There’s also a famous wrapped dessert in the Philippines called Turon which is Saba Banana wrapped in spring roll wrapper and then fried in oil coated with sugar. Sounds tasty, huh? Moreover, there’s another version of Lumpia called the Dynamite. It’s basically a combination of a long green chili and sticks of cheese wrapped in spring roll wrappers. It is then deep-fried until crispy, this way, the combination of the melted cheese and spicy kick of the chili really creates an irresistible taste! The Dynamite is best served with a cheese dipping sauce, yum!

To begin, simply cut the cheese into bite-sized strips, then set them aside. Next, cut the lumpia wrapper into four (4) equal parts. Now, wrap the cheese strips with the spring roll wrappers and then enclose and seal them properly using the water and flour mixture. Repeat this process until you use up all of the cheese.

Alright, we’ll now start frying! First, preheat the oil in the frying pan. Then, put the wrapped cheese into the frying pan. Be careful because the oil should be very hot during this time. Keep on frying the lumpia until it becomes golden brown. Finally, let the lumpia cool down and drain its excess oil before preparing for its plating. And that’s it!
