Spicy Buffalo Wings has been a traditional comfort food for everyone, especially the Americans. It is said that it was first created in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, hence its name, Buffalo Wings. However, did you know that the origin of our favorite chicken wings recipe was actually based on an accident?
Yes! Teresa Bellissimo, who was the owner of the Anchor Bar together with her husband, decided to do something new with the chicken wings shipment they received. Her story suggests that they got the wrong shipment of chicken parts, they originally requested the back and neck parts but instead, they received the wings. During those years, the chicken wings were primarily used only for soups and stocks. She had no idea what to do with the shipment so she just cooked something off of it and voila! Our favorite comfort food has been born just like that!
Throughout several years, more and more people loved the idea of Buffalo Wings. It has become a staple food for the Americans along with their famous burgers, fries, and pizza. In the Philippines, more and more chicken wings restaurants are also opening and becoming successful day by day. Why? Simple, everybody loves chicken wings!

Homemade Spicy Buffalo Wings Recipe
Don’t worry! The cooking procedure is very easy to follow and the ingredients we’ll need for our Spicy Buffalo Wings recipe can be easily bought at the local market or grocery store. Alright! Are you all set? Let’s begin!
Firstly, the ingredients we’ll need are flour, calamansi, salt, pepper, hot sauce, seasoning granules, ketchup, butter, paprika powder, oil, and of course the main ingredient, chicken wings! Oh, I should also mention that you need to cut the chicken wings in half. This makes it easier for us to coat the wings with flavor as well as eating them.
To start, simply wash the chicken wings thoroughly. Remove some excess skin and fats and put them on a strainer for a while. Then, marinate the chicken wings with salt, pepper, paprika powder, calamansi juice, and seasoning granules. Mix all of the ingredients well to incorporate all of the flavors with each other completely. Then let the chicken be marinated for at least two (2) hours. Although it’s better for it to be marinated overnight, 2 hours still works fine so don’t worry!
Next up, once the chicken is completely marinated, prepare a bowl or plate with flour in it. Simply dredge the chicken into the flour and place it straight into a pan with heated oil. Let the chicken cook until it becomes golden brown then set it aside for a while.
Now, we have to make the special Buffalo Wings Sauce! Simply melt the butter in a pan then pour the ketchup and hot sauce then mix them all well. Finally, toss the cooked chicken wings into the pan and keep on tossing and mixing it well until they are all well-coated with the sauce. And voila! There’s your Filipino-Style Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings! You can serve it with a cup of freshly cooked rice on the side and a couple of ice-cold beers!

- Chicken wings cut into half.
- Flour for breadings
- 2 pcs calamansi
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tbsp hot sauce
- 1 tsp seasoning granules
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp butter
- Paprika powder
- Oil for frying
- Wash the chicken wings and strained.
- Marinate the chicken with salt, pepper, paprika powder, seasoning granules and calamansi juice. 3. Marinate for 2 hours
- Dredge into flour and fry into heated oil in a pan.
- Remove when it's golden brown and set aside.
- In another pan melt the butter and add the ketchup and hot sauce.
- Add the fried chicken wings and toss it until well coated with sauce.
- Serve with rice or Beer on the side. Enjoy
