One of the most influential restaurants throughout the history of the Philippines is “the House That Fried Chicken Built”. It’s the one and only Max’s Restaurant. Max’s is the favorite destination of every Filipino for a classic and fun fine dining experience. It boasts of traditional Filipino foods that simply capture the satisfaction of the sensitive taste buds of every Filipino. Of course, Max’s signature dish that continuously impresses people all around the world is its delicious, tender, juicy, and crispy fried chicken! Some of the meals in their menu are also worth loving such as the kare-kare, sinigang, pancit, and many more.
However, there is also this one meal that Filipinos grew to love over the years. It became one of the best-selling meals of Max’s Restaurant just as easily as its famous fried chicken. I think you know what I’m talking about, right? Yes, it’s Max’s one and only Sizzling Tofu!
It’s no surprise why Filipinos loved Sizzling Tofu so much. Who could resist a combination of the tasty and healthy Tofu and our favorite Sisig? Max’s Sizzling Tofu is creamy, spicy, tasty, and overflowing with different flavors and textures! The best part is that people from all age groups approve of the Sizzling Tofu, it’s like a vegetarian way to enjoy the brilliance of our very own Sizzling Sisig.
Filipinos aren’t the only ones that loved Sizzling Tofu, even foreigners were surprised by how delicious its taste is! In fact, you can see countless recipes online teaching you how to cook the Sizzling Tofu Ala Max’s at home. But hey, Panlasang Pinoy Recipes always got your back. So, what are you waiting for? Prepare your aprons because today we will be making your favorite Sizzling Tofu at home!
Don’t worry, making your own version of Sizzling Tofu at home is very easy. All of the ingredients we’ll be using are readily available from your local grocery stores and markets and on top of that, it will only take you about fifteen (15) minutes to prepare! Are you ready? Let’s get started!
For the ingredients, we will need white onion, garlic, red and green chili, bell pepper, calamansi, salt, pepper, sugar, mayonnaise, butter, Knorr seasoning, and of course, Tokwa or Tofu! I suggest that you use Tofu because it’s much more tender than Tokwa, but it also works and tastes just fine!
To start, simply dice the tofu, onion, and bell peppers. Then, make sure to chop the garlic. If you prefer your Sizzling Tofu recipe to be savory and spicy, then you can go ahead and chop the green and red chilies as well!
Next up, fry the diced tofu in a pan until it turns golden brown. Make sure to strain the excess oil, okay? We don’t want our Sizzling Tofu to be excessively oily. After frying, set the tofu aside for a minute.
You can now saute the other ingredients such as onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Add the chilies and the fried tofu, mix them well until all the flavors blend with each other.
Here comes the best part! Next up, season the ingredients by adding salt, pepper, sugar, Knorr seasoning, calamansi, and mayonnaise! (It wouldn’t be Sisig without the touch of mayonnaise, right?) Stir them well.
Finally, pour the contents of the pan into a sizzling plate for better plating and experience! You can also add extra mayonnaise and chilies depending on your preference. After all, the creamier and spicier, the better. Serve with a cup of freshly cooked rice and your dinner is all set!
So, what did you think? Easy, right? The Sizzling Tofu is a perfect dish for any meal of the day. So, it doesn’t matter if you’re serving it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The only sure thing is that you’ll be needing an extra cup of rice every time this dish is on the table! For more quick and exciting Filipino dish recipes, follow Panlasang Pinoy Recipes!
