Warning! 10 Food You Should Not Put On the Fridge

“Put everything away.” is what we always do after shopping for groceries. Don’t be mistaken, this is a good idea when we bring home a bunch of perishable items.

Oftentimes, we’re taught to just put everything into our fridge. Which is not really questionable cause the fridge, if not always, usually, the biggest appliance in the kitchen. Making it a favorable place for keeping things.In some ways, this is a good habit. For perishable goods such as butter, cheese, meat, eggs, and milk, mostly poultry goods, they are best kept in the fridge to avoid spoilage.

Nevertheless, not all foods are supposed to be kept in the fridge. Actually, storing the foods on this list can lead to an array of unwanted effects; reduced freshness, rotting, alteration of texture, and bland taste.

1. HONEY

The chemical makeup of honey modifies when it is refrigerated. It changes its texture and will become stiff, thickened, and will solidify as well. Regardless, honey will stay good even though it is outside the refrigerator. It’s best that the product is in a tightly sealed container and kept away from direct light.

2. TOMATOES

Tomatoes are exposed to the cold air when deposited in the fridge. The tomatoes ripening process is halted when cold air saturates the fruit. Storing tomatoes in the fridge will affect the products texture and flavor. In layman’s words, store tomatoes outside the fridge in their natural state.

3. GARLIC

Another food that is usually stored in the fridge thinking that it will lengthen the product lifespan is garlic. The truth is, storing garlic in the fridge shortens its lifespan. Storing the garlic in the fridge lessens the products usability, can result to the growing of mold, and suppresses the products flavor. Garlic should be kept loosely and ensure to consume the product in ten days after the breaking of its head.

4. COFFEE

A lot of people store their coffee in their fridge, assuming that doing so keeps the product brazen. Actually, it doesn’t preserve the product. Refrigeration changes the coffees taste because of condensation. It is recommended to store coffee in a tightly sealed container in a shelf or in the pantry.

5. OLIVE OIL

The nut- based oils are the only type of oils that is necessary to be stored in the fridge. When other types of oil are stored in the fridge, the product actually takes on an unnaturally thick texture. Example is olive oil. The oils will also start to look darkish and loses its consistency. Oil should be stored in the pantry or on shelves.

6. BREAD

Another product which we also store in the refrigerator is bread. Although, doing so does not do anything to extend the products lifespan. Storing bread in the fridge will also result into quickly drying. It’s absolutely alright to store bread in the fridge― the only effect is that doing so lessens the quality of the breads flavor.
