Coffee and Puto is a huge part of every Filipino family’s everyday lives and tradition. Firstly, most of us can’t start our day properly without sipping a hot cup of coffee. There are countless options for your breakfast coffee, you can have it brewed, or you can also buy it from coffee shops. However, for most Filipinos who are always on the go, their number one go-to coffee is the Kopiko Brown 3-in-1 Coffee! Why? Well, everything you need is already inside the pack, you just need a cup with hot water. It’s relatively convenient and delicious, too!
On the other hand, Puto or Filipino Rice Cakes has long been a part of our tradition. Every morning, a Puto vendor will roam around the streets calling the attention of his suki customers by sounding his horn. The residents, especially children, would then run towards the Puto Kutsinta vendor with wide smiles painted around their faces. After having a cup of coffee and a handful of freshly-made Puto for breakfast, you’re now all set to start your productive day!
But what if I told you that you can make your own coffee-flavored Puto at home? Wait, it gets even better! What if I told you that we’ll be using Kopiko Brown 3-in-1 Coffee as the main ingredient? Yes, you got it right, this is exactly what we’ll be doing today!
Are you ready? Join me as we transform your ordinary breakfast into something delicious and extraordinary! Here’s the recipe for Panlasang Pinoy’s 3-in-1 Kopiko Brown Puto!
3-in-1 Kopiko Brown Puto Recipe
This recipe is very easy! You can get the needed ingredients from your local grocery store or even from the neighborhood sari-sari store. Moreover, the preparation also won’t take up much of your time. Alright? Let’s get started!
For the ingredients, we will need all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, water, oil, vinegar, eggs, vanilla, and lastly, Kopiko Brown 3-in-1 Mix!
You might be wondering why vinegar is added to the list of our ingredients. Well, white vinegar is actually used alongside baking soda to act as a “leavening agent” or in Tagalog, “pampaalsa”. The acidic vinegar reacts with the alkaline baking soda to release enough carbon dioxide gas which then allows baked goods to rise. Interesting, huh?
Moving on! To start our preparation process, simply combine all of the dry ingredients in one bowl, this includes the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and our favorite Kopiko Brown 3-in-1 Coffee! Be sure to mix them all well.
Next, add the wet ingredients which are the eggs, oil, water, vinegar, and vanilla. Only a tablespoon of vanilla is enough for our Kopiko Brown Puto. You wouldn’t want the vanilla to overpower the delicious taste of coffee! As I was saying, mix all the ingredients well until lumps are no longer visible on the mixture.
Finally, pour the mixture into the mold at about ¾ of its height. Remember to allow a little bit of space because the mixture will rise as the temperature increases. After pouring, arrange them neatly into a steamer. To level up your Kopiko Brown Puto, you can also add slices of almonds or chocolate chips!
Steam the mixture for about 20 to 25 minutes. You can tell if the Puto is ready when an inserted toothpick comes out clean from it. Once done steaming, just let the Puto cool then you can now serve them!
Easy, right? That was a piece of cake! (Filipino Rice Cake!) So, whenever you’re craving Puto and want to try something different, then you can go ahead and try our Kopiko Brown 3-in-1 Coffee Puto. It’s tasty, cheap, and easy to make! For more amazingly quick and easy recipes of Filipino food and delights, just follow Panlasang Pinoy Recipes!
